SHORTS: “EXAM” IN COMPETITION AT PRAGUE SHORTS

Jan Naszewski’s latest short fiction film, Exam, has been selected for the international competition of the Czech festival Prague Shorts.

Held in the Czech capital for the past 20 years, Prague Shorts is linked to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in terms of both organisation and programme. It showcases short films from all over the globe across several sections, including the international competition, where Exam is to appear alongside 28 titles from 23 countries. Films made by emerging filmmakers, as well as established names, address a range of pressing issues, contemporary trends, and take innovative stylistic approaches. Presented in five curated programmes, the selection introduces audiences to the cinematic output of countries seldom seen in Czech cinemas – from Estonia and South Africa to Brazil and Cambodia.

Exam tells the story of Gosia and Jurek – an eccentric children’s theatre actress and a workaholic veterinarian – a loving yet fragile couple in their thirties who have been attending therapy for a year with their counsellor, Darek. One day they are invited to a special examination session, where they must serve as the model couple for Darek’s professional certification. Two partners, one therapist under scrutiny, an international panel, a translator, and a reservoir of unspoken frustrations. These will be the longest minutes of their lives.

The film is a Polish–French co-production. The Polish producers are Haka Films and New Europe Productions, with KIDAM and CONDOR serving as co-producers.

The Prague Shorts festival will run from 25 February to 1 March 2026. You can read more about its programme here.
