„Six weeks” – the Best Short Documentary at the festival in Monterrey

During recently finished International Film Festival in Monterrey in Mexico Marcin Janos Krawczyk – the author of „Six weeks”, has been awarded prize for the Best Short Documentary, which now is the next significant laurel for his film.

A child birth. A moment of happiness, a feeling of gratitude and overwhelming love. Does every mother experience her child’s arrival to the world in the same way? Is she ready to manage her child’s upbringing? Marcin Janos Krawczyk’s film shows a story of a woman who gives her newborn baby away for adoption. Within six weeks she has to make her decision on waiving her parental rights. It is final and irreversible. After giving her consent to adoption, the biological mother may not receive any information on the place of residence of her child. She is only entitled to write a letter to him. The film gives an overview of what happens to an accidentally conceived newborn baby over the first six weeks of his life.

Marcin Janos Krawczyk’s debut, lasting nearly 20 minutes, has been frequently appreciated and awarded at international film festivals. Among others „Six weeks” has been honoured with award for the Best Short Film at International Documentary Film Festival IDFA taking place in Amsterdam in November 2009 and „Silver eye” award for the Best Short Film at International Documentary Festival in the very same year in Jihlava.

On honouring Krawczyk with the recent laurel at the International Film Festival in Monterrey, jury esteemed mainly director’s approach to showing the complexed subject of adoption with a great sensibility as well as portraying mother’s inner unease and her painful dilemmas with an unusual understanding.

The documentary „Six weeks” was made in 2009 by producing company Staroń Films in cooperation with Polish Television.    

International Film Festival in Monterrey, which sixth edition has been held from 20th till 29th August, is one of the most interesting cultural events in Mexico, that managed to gain popularity among both mexican and international audience and visiting filmmakers. Monterrey Festival shows anually various documentary, feature and animation films from all over the world. The festival is being based maliny on competition programme, divided to several categories according to genre and lenght of the film.
