The Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (JIMFF) is one of Asia’s most important film festivals dedicated to the relationship between cinema and music. Held since 2005 in picturesque Jecheon, the festival showcases music films, documentaries, feature films, and experimental films from around the world, and its program also includes concerts and musical events. JIMFF serves as a meeting place for filmmakers and musicians and as a platform for promoting new, original forms that combine these two art forms.
The out-of-competition Freestyle section, which featured two Polish documentaries, showcases a variety of productions that blend cinema and music.
“Three Chants” tells the story of an office worker, a foot model, a painter, a performer, and an accountant who participate in a community choir. The sessions are open to everyone, and no singing ability is required. The community’s goal is to unleash life and artistic energy. Among those participating in the meetings are Laura—an artist battling congenital brittle bones—and her mother Małgosia, who is always by her side; Kamil, an incorrigible optimist; and Przemek, who, following his divorce, has lost daily contact with his children. “Three Chants” is a film about expressing oneself through song, breaking a losing streak, and attempting to find solace in human connection.
