DOC: „THE BALCONY MOVIE” IN THE IDFA PROGRAMME

IDFA is beginning to reveal parts of this year’s programme. Among the first titles announced are several Polish productions, including, once again, Paweł Łoziński’s "The Balcony Movie". This time, the internationally acclaimed documentary will be screened in the special section ‘Dead Angle: Common Ground’.

IDFA – the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, which has been running since 1988, is one of the most important international centres dedicated to documentary cinema. Its activities include a film and new media festival, project funding initiatives, industry markets, talent development programmes and educational activities. The organisation also runs a year-round documentary centre in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark.

This year, Paweł Łoziński’s “The Balcony Movie” will return to Amsterdam; it was screened in the IDFA Specials section in 2021. This time, it will be presented as part of the special programme Dead Angle: Common Ground, dedicated to various forms of community, solidarity and encounters in public spaces. From the balcony of his flat, the director points his camera at a Warsaw pavement and strikes up conversations with passers-by, creating a polyphonic portrait of contemporary society from these chance encounters.
