LITTLE BRIDE AWARDED IN MEXICO

Lesław Dobrucki’s documentary „Little Bride”, produced by Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing, was given the prize in Mexico. This is the next laurel honoured at the international festival after Vilnius Film Shorts 2010, where “Little Bride” were awarded as well.

Lesław Dobrucki’s film was given the Honorable Mention in the short film competition called Speak Out Against Domestic Violence. The aim of this competition – held by Expresión En Corto International Film Festival & Avon Mexico – was to raise awareness against domestic violence around the world.

Little Bride by Lesław Dobrucki tackles the problem of omnipresent household violence against women, which remains a taboo subject in the Turkish society. Dynamic cinematography by Piotr Rosołowski perfectly relates the atmosphere of danger and uncertainty, which affects the protagonist of the film sharing the lot of many Turkish women. She was still a child when her family decided to marry her off to a cousin. She entered into the marriage at the age of thirteen, in Germany it turned out to be a nightmare. Beaten and humiliated, eventually she resolves to run away – as far from home as possible. Even today she has to live in hiding from her husband’s family, for whom her escape is a blot on their escutcheon. She cannot count on the support of her Turkish kin. She is afraid to ask Germans for help. After all she has suffered, will she be able to pick up the shredded pieces of the reality into a new whole?

The film was developed within the framework of the programme ‘Jerusalem-Warsaw-Cologne. Triangle Dialogue’ carried out by the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing, ifs International Film School from Cologne and Sam Spiegel Film School from Jerusalem with the support of: the Polish Film Institute, the NRW Film Foundation of Nordrhein-Westfalen, the Polish-German Cooperation Foundation and the Polish Institute in Israel.

Lesław Dobrucki is a graduate of the Graphics Department of Warsaw’s Academy of Fine Arts and of the Documentary Course conducted at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing, within the frames of which he made his film Ekipa [The Crew] (jointly with Kuba Maciejko and Rafał Samborski) and Kilka mniejszych wygranych [The Booth of Fortune].
