The greatest success celebrated by Poles in Oberhausen was awarding the Principal Prize to Tomasz Popakul for his animated “Ziegenort”. The story of a fish boy who is becoming an adult became jury’s favourite. On presenting the award to Popakul jury stated the following: the author of “Ziegenort” created a film that is artistically crafted and delivered through a series of animated drawings that portray many depths and several perspectives. This regional and semi-autobiographical tale is haunting in the most beautiful ways”. This is the first award for the graduation film by Popakul produced by animation studio No Label.
The international jury in Oberhausen presented three special mentions – one of them went to Paweł Ziemilski in recognition of his documentary „Rogalik”. Five Polish films were selected to the competition of Oberhausen – one of the leading festivals among those devoted to short film.
