“THE TENANTS” WIN THE STUDENT ACADEMY AWARD

The film "The Tenants" by Klara Kochańska is the winner of the 43rd edition of the Student Academy Awards. The award ceremony is held on September 22.

The short feature film by Klara Kochańska passed like a storm through all stages of the Student Academy Awards – first, it qualified for the semi-finals, where only 5% of submitted films were accepted, and then, it was included in the finals of the competition, together with six other productions. Today, we are happy to announce that the film "The Tenants" will be honoured with the medal of the Student Academy Awards. Whether the feature film by Klara Kochańska wins the gold, silver or bronze medal, we will discover on September 22.

Student Academy Awards are awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to the best student films in five categories: animated, documentary, feature, alternative and foreign film. It is worthwhile to add that the winners can apply for an Academy Award nomination.

The film tells the story of Justyna, a single thirty-year-old, who, in spite of the risk which goes with it, buys an apartment at a bailiff auction. On the day of moving to her dream home, it turns out that the keys do not fit the lock, and Justyna cannot go inside. Sometimes dreams come true in a nightmarish way…

The film has already been appreciated at Warsaw Film Festival, when it won the Grand Prix award, and at the Global Chinese Universities Student Film, from where it returned with the best foreign film award. Recently, the film was shown at the 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival within the frames of the programme Future Frames.

The film was produced by Lodz Film School.
