ANIM: “ACID RAIN” THE BEST SHORT ANIMATION IN FINLAND

Another award for Tomek Popakul's animation came from the Finnish Animatricks Animation Festival. The film was recognized as the best short animation of the event.

Animatricks Animation Festival was established in 2000. It is an animation festival held annually in the capital of Finland. Helsinki residents then have the opportunity to see the most interesting productions from around the world, from short animated forms to full-length ones.

The program of this year’s festival also includes Polish productions. As many as 8 of our films could be found in the competition program. In addition to the award-winning film by Tomek Popakul, viewers and jurors had the opportunity to see “Story” by Jola Bańkowska, “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch, “Squaring The Circle” by Karolina Specht, “Colaholic” by Marcin Podolec, “III” by Marta Pajek, “The Hunt” by Mateusz Jarmulski and “Bless You!” by Paulina Ziółkowska.

The action of the awarded “Acid Rain” takes place somewhere in Eastern Europe. The young girl runs away from home, as far as possible from the gray town. The initial excitement of the hitchhiking journey subsides as it lands on the edge of town in the middle of the night. On the bridge, she notices a figure balancing dangerously on the railing. This is how he meets Skinny, a bit of a disturbed freak. Skinny lives in a motorhome, which he drives, taking care of not necessarily legal errands. Young decides to go with Skinny. Their common path leads into ever stranger regions, and an unnamed bond is quickly forged between them.
