ANIM: “ACID RAIN” WINS AT ANIM’EST

The film by Tomek Popakul won the best animated film award at the Romanian festival ANIM'EST.

The ANIM’EST  International Animation Film Festival was established in 2006 and immediately won the liking of the residents of Budapest. In its six competition sections, the festival presents animated films from all over the world, as well as music videos and VR projects. In addition to film screenings, there are also concerts, workshops, industry meetings and discussion panels at the festival.

The production by Tomek Popakul, awarded the Animest Trophy, is not the only Polish film represented by KFF Sales&Promotion which you could watch in Romania.  You could find Polish animated films in as many as three sections, including two competition ones. “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska had a chance to win the best student animated film award, “Story” by Jola Bańkowska was shown in the same international competition as the award-winning “Acid Rain.” In the non-competing sections, the viewers had the opportunity to watch  “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch, “Ovule” by Natalia Durszewicz, “Beautiful” by Weronika Kuc and “Pussy” by Renata Gąsiorowska.

The animated film by Tomek Popakul, produced by Animoon, is set somewhere in Eastern Europe. Młoda runs away from home, as far away from the grey reality as possible. The initial excitement of the hitch-hiking journey subsides when she ends up on the outskirts of the city in the middle of the night. On the bridge, she notices a figure dangerously balancing on the railing.  This is how she meets Chudy, a little bit unbalanced freak. Chudy lives in a recreational vehicle which he drives in order to attend his not necessarily legal errands. Młoda decides to join Chudy. Their road together takes them to increasingly strange regions, and an unnamed bond quickly forms between them.
