AUGUST AT SHORT FILM FESTIVALS

Travelling the world during summer holidays one can find film festivals in many various cities, and at the festivals - Polish productions. Check out our list of places where Polish short films will be shown this August.

If you are planning a trip to the Balkans do not miss the screening of "Close Ties" by Zofia Kowalewska, who will compete at the Montenegro Film Festival in Herceg Novi. In the program of the MakeDox Festival in Macedonia you will find three Polish movies "Education" by Emi Buchwald and "Three Conversations on Life" by Julia Staniszewska. "Polonaise" by Agnieszka Elbanowska awaits two screenings in the Balkans: the film has entered the competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina and, together with "The Best Fireworks Ever" by Aleksandra Terpińska, at the DokuFest International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Kosovo. Also Polish animation will be strongly represented in Kosovo. The Anibar Animation Festival will show "Pencilless Case" by Magdalena Pilecka, "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II" by Marta Pajek, "Oh Mother!" by Paulina Ziółkowska and "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska.

Renata Gąsiorowska's animation will be also presented to the audience at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, La Guarimba Film Festival in Italy, the Open Air Filmfest Weiterstadt in Germany and Festival International Du Film De Nancy in France. Also in France "Pussy" will be shown at the Silhouette Short FF together with "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II" and at the Pluk de Nacht Open Air Film Festival together with "Beside Oneself" by Karolina Specht.

In sunny Mexico the International Film Festival with Gender Perspective will show "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec, and at the Monterrey International Film Festival the audience will see "The Shavings" by Agata Mianowska, "Hail Mary" by Aleksandra Wit and "Disorder" by Julian Tałandziewicz.

Several Polish shorts were included in the programs of American film festivals. "Mother" by Piotr Gołębiowski will be shown at the HollyShorts Film Festival and the Monmouth Film Festival. "Theatrum Magicum" by Marcina Giżycki was invited to the USA by the Flickers’ International Rhode Island Film Festival and the Action On Film Festival. The film will be also shown in Hungary, where it will take part in the main competition of the Budapest Short Film Festival.

Also in Italy one can find plenty festivals presenting Polish shorts. The Lessinia Film Festival invited to the competition a documentary "Before Dawn" by Łukasz Borowski. Italian animated film festival Imaginaria made a bet on "The Courtyard" by Grzegorz Wacławek, and the Concorto Film Festival will show "16.03" by Natalia Siwicka. As for the Lucania Film Festival "Oh Mother!" and "Adaptation" by Bartosz Kurhlik have entered the competition.

A little bit more chilly weather has to be expected by the audience wanting to see Polish films in the Nordic countries. Here as well they will see "Adaptation", this time at the Silver Horse International Film Festival in Sweden. In Finland the Turku Animated Film Festival planned seven different screenings of Polish animations: "Oh Mother!", "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II", "Black" by Tomasz Popakul, "Locus" by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, "Cosmos" by Daria Kopiec, "Pussy" and "XOXO – Hugs and Kisses" by Wiola Sowa. The last two animations were also invited to the Danish festival in Odense.

Austria also won't miss Polish shorts this month. The Alpinale Short Film Festival will show "Black Volga" by Marta Wiktorowicz, and the Kitzbuehel Film Festival "The Dogcatcher" by Daria Woszek.
