„Danny Boy” – the best animation of „Alpinale” Film Festival in Austria

At recently finished International Short Film Festival „Alpinale” in Nenzing in Austria, „Danny Boy” directed by Marek Skrobecki was awarded the prize for the Best Animated Film.

Marek Skrobecki’s film is a commentary on one of the most absorbing subjects that concerns modern society – the alienation of a human being and its place in the reality. „Danny Boy” is a story of a young boy who constantly and without any definite destination wanders the streets of an anonymous city. His growing feelings of loneliness and distinctness are intensified by the fact that he looks different than the others. One day he meets someone who is ready to accept his dissimilarity. The idea of Skrobecki’s film stems from the popular song „Danny Boy”.

The film that is a coproduction was made in 2010 by the joint venture of the producing companies „Se-ma-for” from ódź and Archagel SA from Switzerland.

The „Golden Unicorn” prize for the best animation at International Short Film Festival „Alpinale” is another award gained by Polish animation film. „Danny Boy” has been already awarded Ginger Award „Narcisse”- for the best swiss short film and Taurus Studio Award for the Best Film at Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival being held from 4th till 11th July in Switzerland.

Furthermore Matek Skrobecki’s film has been screened during several film events and also has been accepted for the competitive sections of festivals such as, among others, Melbourne, Solothurn in Switzerland, Hiroshima, Brazil and Krakow.
