Twelve films, one Polish among them, have been qualified to the youngest Krakow Film Festival competition. This year the Golden Horn award for best feature-length documentary will be given third time.
The first laureate of the Golden Horn award was Jeroen Berkvens, Dutch, whose documentary ‘Jimmy Rosenberg – The Father, The Son and The Talent’ about genial, Gypsy guitarist with troubled biography amazed the public and the Jury. Last year the triumphant was Ukrainian director, Sergei Lozitsa for his unique, consisted only from archive propaganda footage film ‘Predstavlenye’ (‘Revue’).
This year documentaries for the competition have been selected by Anita Piotrowska , a film journalist and Krzysztof Gierat , the Krakow Film Festival Director. Commenting the decision of the Selection Committee, Anita Piotrowska said: – For the feature-length documentary competition we have chosen 12 films from all over the world: from China (‘The Biggest Chinese Restaurant In The World’, to Burkina Faso (‘The Hillside Crowd’). During the Festival public will see the newest production from acknowledged documentary filmmakers like Kim Longinotto (‘Rough Aunties’ – about the group of courageous women from Republic of South Africa, who declared war on molestation of children) or Marcin Koszałka ( ‘Wyrok na życie’ – about the women in prison). Also for the competition have been selected original, musical documentary dealing with the issue of immigration and life in multicultural society ( ‘99% Honest’) and surprising, humoristic story about how hard is to choose between love for a woman and love for an old car (Israeli ‘The Beetle’)
