The film “Charcoal Burners” took part in the international competition of the festival in Pärnu, fighting for the highest award in the “short documentary” category, with the Serbian film “Shadow” by Vladimir Perovic and Hungarian “How Long?” by Cecilia Bella. Even more, during the Estonian festival, there was the premiere screening of this Polish documentary.
“Charcoal Burners” is a documentary etude by Piotr Złotorowicz, a graduate of Szczecin University of Technology. Since 2006, he has been studying at The Leon Schiller’s National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. The film is a short story of Marek and Janina, who work as charcoal burners in Bieszczady every year. The protagonists lead simple, unhurried life, different from hustle and bustle of urban civilization. We observe them doing everyday chores, from the earliest hours in the morning to twilight, being together with them among the wild nature, which sets the rhythm of every day.
Soon, the film “Charcoal Burners” will be shown at two Polish festivals: at 10th International Film Festival “Era New Horizons” in Wrocław (the screening will take place on 29th July, 1 .p.m.), where the documentary will take part in the “Polish Short Films” competition, and at 4th Film and Art Festival “Two Riversides” in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą(the screening will take place on 2nd August, 2 p.m.). After the screenings, the audience at both festivals will have an opportunity to meet the director.
