In its statement, the International Jury highlighted the film’s distinctive way of portraying inner experiences through sensory, corporeal images and sound. As the jury noted, Hidden brings to the surface emotions that are often overlooked yet remain persistently present, combining multiple individual experiences into one moving, collective experience for the viewer.
Hidden is an intimate, multilayered film essay about fear, an emotion that permeates the body and mind, disrupts everyday rhythms and, when suppressed, can have destructive consequences. The film takes as its starting point a seemingly simple question: how do I feel then? In answering it, the protagonists share personal experiences of this primal emotion, one that is often passed down from generation to generation.
The film was produced by Marta Szymanowska. Hidden had its world premiere at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and was recently screened as part of the programme of the 66th Krakow Film Festival.
