“III” AND “SQUARING THE CIRCLE” IN SERBIA AND ROMANIA

Marta Pajek's and Karolina Specht's films at the beginning of October will represent Polish animation in the competitions of two festivals: ANIM’EST in Romania and BALKANIMA in Serbia.

Romanian ANIM’EST was established in 2006 and since the beginning has earned the sympathy of the people in Bucharest. This year the event will start on September 28th and will last till October 7th. The festival presents animations from around the world in six competitions. Apart from film screenings the festival hosts concerts, workshops, industry meetings and panel discussions.

The Serbian festival is a little bit shorter and starts at the beginning of the next month – its exact dates are October 2nd to 6th. BALKANIMA European Animated Film Festival takes place every year in Belgrade. Animated films from all over Europe are presented in five sections.

Both Polish animations will be presented in the competition sections of the two festivals mentioned above. Marta Pajek’s animation is the third part of the “Impossible Figures and Other Stories” triptych. “III” is a portrait of a woman in an uneasy and exhausting relation with a man, which pulls closer and pushes away with the same strength.”Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht is a half abstract story, filled with graphic metaphors, about an impossible feeling.
