The Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Festival is the first and only animation film festival in Europe dedicated exclusively to female filmmakers. This year’s edition is held online between 10 and 16 March. The event gathers great attention each year. In addition to the competition, the audience can expect several non-competitive sections, retrospectives, and special screenings.
Its program often includes productions made by Polish animators. It was similar this year, apart from the award-winning film by Julia Orlik, the competitive segment also included “We Hope You Won’t Need To Come Back” by Anastazja Naumenko and “Your Own Bullshit” by Daria Kopiec. The special sections featured well-known and previously awarded animations such as Renata Gąsiorowska’s “Pussy”, Marta Pajek’s “III”, Katarzyna Warzecha’s “We Have One Heart”, and Natalia Durszewicz’s “Portrait of a Woman”.
Awarded with the Sabine & Nicolai Sawczynski Audience Award, “I’m Here” tells the story of an elderly man who is looking after his paralysed wife. Despite his old age and own health issues, he tries his best to alleviate her suffering, which is getting more severe every day. He is aided by his daughter, who tries to reconcile the care given to her mother with her own work at the hospital and her personal life. Each of them has different views on how the woman should be looked after, which leads to many arguments.
