DOCS: INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE OF “SILVER” AT THE JIHLAVA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL

The multi-award-winning documentary “Silver”, directed by Natalia Koniarz, has been selected for the Opus Bonum Main Competition at the 29th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival – one of the most important documentary film events in Central and Eastern Europe. The screening in Jihlava will mark the film’s international premiere.

This year’s Ji.hlava IDFF will take place from 24 October to 2 November 2025 in Jihlava, Czech Republic. Recognized as the region’s largest festival dedicated to auteur documentary cinema, Ji.hlava has, for nearly three decades, brought together filmmakers, producers, critics, and audiences to reflect on the contemporary world through the lens of film.

The Opus Bonum section, in which Silver will be presented, features 18 feature-length documentaries from around the globe. The selected films will be showcased as world, international, or European premieres. The jury will award not only the Best Documentary Film Prize, but also distinctions for Best Cinematography, Editing, and Sound.

Silver takes viewers deep into Bolivia’s oldest silver mine. In the silence and darkness of a trembling mountain, we enter the underground world through the eyes of a boy, an old miner, and a woman. In this place where sweat mingles with the blood of history, emerges a story of colonial legacy and the endless cycle of exploitation. The film, both a tribute to memory and human endurance, invites the audience to look into the darkness hidden beneath the surface of consciousness.

The film was produced by Maciej Kubicki (Telemark), with co-producers Torstein Grude Ruwê Yuxinawá (Piraya Film / Norway), Iikka Vehkalahti (IV Films / Finland), Silesia Film, and mx35. The executive producer is Paweł Pawlikowski.

The film’s international festival representation is handled by KFF Sales & Promotion.

Silver had its world premiere at the 65th Krakow Film Festival, where it received six awards: the Silver Horn, the Audience Award, the Best Producer Award for Maciej Kubicki, the Best Cinematography Award for Stanisław Cuske, the Maciej Szumowski Award, the FIPRESCI Award, and a recommendation for the European Film Awards.
