KFF SALES & PROMOTION FILMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER

In November, there is an abundance of film festivals at which you can watch Polish films. There will be no lack of them, among others, at the Belarusian "Listopad," the German Cottbus FF, the Estonian PÖFF Shorts, the German interfilm, the Spanish ZINEBI, the Portuguese CINANIMIE, the Dutch KABOOM and the Mexican ANIMASIVO, as well as at the IDFA festival in the Netherlands. Let's find out where else during this month you can watch the Polish productions represented by the agency.

Already, the first day of the month brings a couple of screenings. In Japan, at the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival, in the competition sections, there are three Polish animated films: “My Strange Elder Brother” by Julia Orlik, “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch and “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul. On the same day starts the two-month-long Flying Film Festival. Within the frames of this event, the viewers will have the opportunity to watch “The Notebook” by Aleksandra Rylewicz. Our productions will also be present at the Minsk International Film Festival “Listopad.” The festival also starts on the 1st of November, and the viewers will have the opportunity to watch several Polish documentary films throughout the week. The programme includes “Connected” by Aleksandra Maciejczyk, “Dam” by Natalia Koniarz and “In Touch” by Paweł Ziemilski.

A few days later, in Germany starts the 35th edition of the interfilm – International Short Film Festival Berlin. The programme comprises almost 10 Polish animated films, including a majority from the KFF Sales&Promotion agency, which will compete for the awards, and these are: “III”  by Marta Pajek, “You Are Overreacting” by Karina Paciorkowska, “Portrait of Suzanne” by Izabela Plucińska, “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska, “Colaholic” by Marcin Podolec, “The Hunt” by Mateusz Jarmulski, “Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht and “My Strange Elder Brother” by Julia Orlik.

At the same time as the festival in Berlin, the 23rd edition of the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur will be held in Switzerland. There will be no lack of Polish films there, too. The animated films “Story” by Jola Bańkowska and “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul will compete for the awards, and “The Land of Whim” by Betina Bożek will be presented in the non-competing section.  The documentary film “In A Lion” by Karol Lindholm will also be present in the programme.

On the 6th of November start three festivals at which Polish films represented by the agency will be presented.   “Zhalanash – Empty Shore”  by Marcin Sauter will compete for the awards at the Romanian UrbanEye Film Festival,  “Unconditional Love” by Rafał Łysak will be shown in the Netherlands at the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival.  “The Wind. Two days later, four important Spanish festivals begin.  The selectors of the 61st edition of the International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao (ZINEBI) were enchanted by three Polish animated films.  “Story” by Jola Bańkowska, “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul and “The Hunt” by Mateusz Jarmulski have a chance to win more awards. At the 49th ALCINE – Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares / Comunidad de Madrid, the viewers will watch “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch.  And at the Seville European Film Festival, the competition screening of “Guilt” by Marcjanna Urbańska and the non-competing one of “Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht wait for the audience.  In turn, at the 49th edition of the festival ALONE in Madrid, “Cradle Me” by David Tejer is included in the competition.

A day later begin the Loft Film Fest, at which “The Tough” by Marcin Polar will be shown in the competition and the Cork Film Festival, where “Horse Riders” by Anna Gawlita has a chance to win the awards. In Lithuania,  the European Film Forum SCANORAMA 2019 will be held for the 17th time. “In A Lion” by Karol Lindholm,  “Dam” by Natalia Koniarz and the feature film “Tremors” by Dawid Bodzak will have a chance to win a statuette.

We will see a large representation of Polish animated films in the programme of the 43rd edition of the International Animated Film Festival CINANIMA. The following films will be screened at the Portuguese festival: “The Hunt” by Mateusz Jarmulski, “My Strange Elder Brother” by Julia Orlik, “Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht, “Ovule” by Natalia Durszewicz, “Bless You!” by Paulina Ziółkowska and “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik.  We can find four animated films at the Manchester Animation Festival. Two films will compete for the awards: “You Are Overreacting”  by Karina Paciorkowska and “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska, and “Thicket” by Adrianna Matwiejczuk and “Story” by Jola Bańkowska will be shown in the non-competing section.

In the half of the month, there will be as many as three screenings of the award-winning film by Tomek Popakul. “Acid Rain” will be screened at the Korean Seoul Best of the Best Animation Festival, the German Kurzfilmfestival Köln and the Dutch Kaboom Animation Festival. At the last of the aforementioned festivals, you can also watch the previous film by Popakul, “Black,” as well as four other popular Polish animated films, such as “Story” by Jola Bańkowska, “Bless You!” by Paulina Ziółkowska, “Pussy” by Renata Gąsiorowska and “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska.

The following days will bring two German festivals. At the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, the audience will have the opportunity to watch “The Tough.” The film by Marcin Polar will also be shown at the Danish Nordic Adventure Film Festival.  At the same time, the Kendal Mountain Festival with the screening of “Connected” by Aleksandra Maciejczyk and the Spanish La Cabina Valencia International Medium-Length Film Festival, at which “Unconditional Love” by Rafał Łysak will compete for the awards, are also held.

On the 19th of November starts the new edition of the festival Etiuda&Anima. In the programme, there are several films from our agency: Vitae Azilia by Joanna Wapniewska, “Portrait of Suzanne” by Izabela Plucińska and “Story” by Jola Bańkowska. A bit earlier, the last of the aforementioned films will visit the American AFI FEST and the Ajyal Film Festival in Qatar.  In turn, the viewers of the German Exground Filmfest and the audience at the PÖFF Shorts will get acquainted with “Portrait of Suzanne.”

At the Estonian festival, in addition to the film by Izabela Plucińska, you can watch the competition screenings of “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch, “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul,  “Leather” by Karolina Borgiasz and the non-competing screenings of the films:   “Metro” by Natalia Krawczuk, “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska, “Dancing For You” by Katarzyna Lesisz and “Ovule” by Natalia Durszewicz. In a similar time as the PÖFF Shorts, the French Fête de l’anim starts. There, three films by Polish women animated film-makers will compete for the awards: “Bless You!” by Paulina Ziółkowska, “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik and “You Are Overreacting” by Karina Paciorkowska. The last of the aforementioned films will also be presented at the Magma International Short Film Festival in Italy.

The third week of November may turn out to be very fruitful for “Play” by Sułkowski, which at that time is included in the competitions at the Italian Festival de Cinema de Castel Volturno, the Morrocan Rabat International Author Film Festival, the Hungarian Blue Danube Film Festival and the German Braunschweig International Film Festival, with the screening of  “Loved Ones” by Zofia Kowalewska in the non-competing section.

“III” by Marta Pajek will also have several screenings at the festivals this month. The animated film will be shown, among others, at the Ljubljana International Film Festival, there, the film by Anna Gawlita will wait for the audience, too,  at the Brussels International Film Festival and the Feinaki 2019 Beijing Animation Week, where it will compete for the awards together with “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul. The latest film by Marcin Podolec will also visit a lot of countries around the world. “Colaholic” will be shown in Mexico at the Cut Out – International Animation and Digital Art. Festival, in Canada in the competition at the Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival and in Spain at the Soria International Film Festival, where “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska will also have its screening.

A large review of Polish animated films waits for the audience of the Mexican ANIMASIVO. It is there where you can watch the greatest festival hits of recent months, such as ” Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul, “Story” by Jola Bańkowska, “III” by Marta Pajek, “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska, “Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht, “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik, “You Are Overreacting” by Karina Paciorkowska, “Bless You!” by Paulina Ziółkowska and “An eye for an eye” by Julia Płoch, “The Notebook” by Aleksandra Rylewicz,  “Norma” by Agata Mianowska, “Thicket” by Adrianna Matwiejczuk  and  “The Other.”  The film by Marta Magnuska will also be shown at the Norwegian ReAnima – Bergen International Animation Festival.

Seven Polish films are invited to the programme of this year’s International Animation Film Festival “Tindirindis.”  The following films will have a chance to win awards: “You Are Overreacting” by Karina Paciorkowska, “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska, “Squaring the Circle” by Karolina Specht, “Leather” by Karolina Borgiasz, “Eatself” by Edyta Adamczak, “III” by Marta Pajek and “The Hunt” by Mateusz Jarmulski, which will also be shown at the Entrevues Belfort International Film Festival.

Polish feature films have also been noticed by international festivals. In the competitions at the 18th Miami Short FF and the 28th Whitaker St. Louis International FF there is “Atlas” by Maciej Kawalski, “Boys With Butterflies” by Marcin Filipowicz will compete for the awards at the Copenhagen Short Film Festival, in turn, at the British Aesthetica Film Festival the jury will evaluate  “Play” by Piotr Sułkowski.

At the end of the month starts one of the most important documentary film festivals, the IDFA. As it was the case in the previous years, there is no lack of Polish productions in the programme of the Dutch festival.  In the non-competing sections, the viewers will have the opportunity to watch  “The Tough” by Marcin Polar, represented by the KFF Sales&Promotion.  In turn, in the competition section, there is the film represented by the agency, “Sonny” by Paweł Chorzępa.  You can read more about Polish films at the IDFA festival here.

At the very end of November, the Poitiers Film Festival is announced. At the French event, we will see two Polish animated films: “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik and “Tango of Longing” by Marta Szymańska. The November festival season will end with the London International Animation Festival with the competition screening of “Acid Rain” by Tomek Popakul.
