The name of the festival “Flahertiana” comes from one of the worldwide precursor of documentary cinema – Robert Flaherty’s name (1884 – 1951), the american director of famous documentary “Nanook of the North” (1922). The Flaherty’s output has become an inspiration for the festival organizers to create an unique character during the event in Perm. What is more, the awards given at the festival refer to the silhouette of title’s protagonist of the first Flaherty’s film.
The pillar of the festival “Flahertiana” is the international competition. This year the members of the jury – that is: Viktor Lisakovich (Russian filmmaker, President of the Jury), Andrey Bezukladnikov (Russian photographer, producer of a web site photographer.ru), Laima Freimane (Producer from Latvia), Lubomir Georgiev (producer and filmmaker working in Brussels) and Marc Isaacs (documentary filmmaker from UK) – will judge the documentaries from all over the world, and from Poland as well. Three Polish films qualified for the international competition programme: “North from Calabria” by Marcin Sauter, “At the Edge of Russia” by Michał Marczak and “Chemo” by Paweł Łoziński.
In addition, the audience in Perm will have the opportunity of watching the vast range of the newest Polish documentaries (produced in 2009 and 2010) within the frames of the programme called “Polish Films”. The following titles will be shown:
