„RITUAŁ” PROVES THE BEST DEBUT AT 9TH EDITION OF TINDIRINDIS

On 30th October the ninth edition of International Animation Festival “Tindirindis”, that ran from 24th October in Vilnius, came to end. During six festival days the audience had a chance to watch more than 440 animated films.

From 28 submissions sent to the festival from Poland, eleven films were qualified for the final selection – “Two steps behind..” by Paulina Majda, “The Lost Town of Świteź” by Kamil Polak, “Paths of Hate” by Damian Nenow, “Danny Boy” by Marek Skrobecki, “Esterhazy” by Izabela Plucińska, “Lullaby” by Rafał Łobodziński, “Hip-Hip and Hurray: Good Appetite Adele” by Elżbieta Wąsik, “Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla, “Plumm” by Andrzej Dybowski, “Lumberjack” by Paweł Dębski and “Sleepincord” by Marta Pajek. Films were screened in 22 sections such as debuts, films for children, experimental, student films or animated music videos.

On the last day of the festival the award for the best debut was presented to “Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla. Animation is a vividly illustrated record of the character’s struggle with everyday activities. A sequence of overlapping interactions between a human and a dog often assumes a grotesque, comical form of intolerable compulsions. The short film raises a timid question about the complexity – or should we say imperfections – of human nature. Behaviors, gestures and habits of both the human and his dog show a far-reaching resemblance, while their mutual relationship is an unending cycle of everyday rituals. The film was produced in frame of Young Animation programme – an initiative launched by Munk Studio, in coproduction with TVP Kultura and LukaFilm.

Special mention in the main competition was handed over to “Paths of Hate” directed by Damian Nenow and produced at Platige Image. This special mention is another award for Nenow’s animation, that so far was screened and awarded in Annecy, Vancouver, San Diego, Dallas, Seattle and Rhode Island to name just a few.
