„THE ARGENTINEAN LESSON” TRIUMPHS IN AZORES

A new award has just joined the pretty long list of awards for Wojciech Staroń’s film. “The Argentinean lesson” has been recognized as the best feature-length film of Panazorean International Film Festival.

Panazorean International Film Festival, held in Azores archipelago, is quite a new event on a world festival’s map. This year the festival has celebrated its second edition which has ended on Saturday, April 20th, with the Awards Gala held in the Michaelense Theatre in São Miguel island. „The Argentinean lesson” by Wojciech Staroń has been announced the Best Long/Medium Feature-Length Film of the International Competition gaining its place among the awarded titles.

Wojciech Staroń’s documentary has been already awarded at many international film festivals. It has won the Silver Dove in Leipzig and Grand Prizes of such festivals as Dokudays, Listapad, Detour or Chinese festival in Guangzhou. The main characters of the film are Marcia – an Argentinean teenage girl of Polish origin who attends Polish classes and Janek – the older son of the director. Janek is following his new friend, who fights alone through the family crisis, mother’s mental disease and father’s absence. Working on yerba plantations and brick factory, he enters the fascinating world of child fantasy, and is introduced to the bitterness of the childhood prematurely contaminated with the problems of the grown-ups.
