DOCS: “THE QUEEN AND THE SMOKEHOUSE” WON THE BESR FEATURE FILM AWARD IN FRANCE

‘The Queen and the Smokehouse’ by Iga Lis won the Best Feature Film Award at the Festival de films Pêcheurs du Monde in France.

The 18th edition of Festival de films Pêcheurs du Monde took place in Lorient and 11 towns across southern Brittany, from 17 to 29 March 2026. The festival’s programme celebrates maritime culture. Through cinema and its documentary power, the Pêcheurs du Monde Festival tells the stories of seafarers, stories that are as universal as they are unique. Its programme highlights human stories, questions the future and advocates for sustainable fishing committed to the preservation of natural resources.

“The Queen and the Smokehouse” was presented there in the international competition. This was the second screening of the film in France, where the film had its international premiere at FIPADOC in Biarritz in January.

The film tells the story of Miecia who has ruled her smokehouse for over forty years in a bustling Polish seaside town,  known as the local “Queen”. A beloved community fixture, it is a meeting place, a lifeline for some, and a small empire built on her dedication. Yet when failing health forces Miecia to step back, the future of the smokehouse and of those who depend on it begins to unravel.

The film is produced by Munk Studio, operating within the Polish Filmmakers Association, in collaboration with Silver Frame.

KFF Sales is taking care of the international festival distribution and world sales of the film.
