Founded in 1981, the 46th Hawai’i International Film Festival was established to promote diverse cinematic voices from the Asia-Pacific region and to foster cultural exchange through film. Over the years, the festival has become one of the most important platforms for Asian, Pacific, and American cinema, as well as for independent filmmaking. Natalia Krawczuk’s film is one of only a few European productions selected for this year’s programme.
“Three Cups of Coffee” is a stop-motion animation telling the story of a woman who returns to the city of her youth to meet a man who was once close to her. On the last evening of the year, their paths cross again. Sitting together in a café over the titular three cups of coffee, they revisit old memories and attempt to come to terms with the past.
