Every year in Espinho, the best films by young filmmakers are presented, which compete for awards in two main competition sections – Silver Lynx Competition for short films made by directors under 30 years of age and Golden Lynx Competition for the first and second films in the feature film category. Within the frames of the festival, there are annual training sessions within the frames of FEST- Training Ground – workshops, masterclasses and meetings in which the most famous filmmakers participate.
It is worth mentioning that within the frames of the annual section "Flavours of the World," a screening of Polish short films was shown this year. In the programme, organised by the Ad Arte Foundation (the organiser of the Short Waves festival), the following films were screened – among others, "Ziegenort" by Tomek Popakul, "Killing Auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki, "Edward" by Emilia Śniegoska and "Luke and Lotta" by Renata Gąsiorowska.
In the feature-length competition, a special mention went to the Polish film "Little Crushes" by Aleksandra Gowin and Ireneusz Grzyb. Gowin and Grzyb worked on many short films as editors, among others, on "Miruna" by Piotr Sułkowski and "Rogalik" by Paweł Ziemilski. Currently, the film "Creature ", made together by Aleksandra Gowin and Ireneusz Grzyb within the frames of the "30 minutes" programme in the Munk Studio, is in post-production.
