The first Polish short film to get a shot at conquering festivals this year is Damian Kocur’s Beyond is the Day. The film will first visit the Austro-Hungarian Blue Danube Film Festival and then fly over the pond to the Slamdance Film Festival. However, it isn’t the only Polish production to compete for the favour of jurors at this American event. Its competitions also include the animated films Crumbs of Life by Katarzyna Miechowicz, Plantarium by Tomasz Ducki, and I’m Here by Julia Orlik.
The first Polish documentary to be shown this year at an international festival is Andrzej Cichocki’s film. A Little Bit of Paradise will be shown during the 35th edition of the Stuttgarter Filmwinter – Festival of Expanded Media.
A large representation of Polish productions can be found in the program of the 34th Premiers Plans Film Festival. Its competitions feature Fury by Julia Siuda, Beasts Among Us by Natalia Durszewicz, Plantarium by Tomasz Ducki, and Four Cups of Coffee or Three by Sebastian Łach.
Marcin Polar’s The Tough will be traveling from the frosty and gloomy Polish reality to sunny Lebanon. The film will be screened at the Lebanese Outdoors Film Festival.
Jakub Prysak’s fiction film Headfish will travel to Italy for the Trieste Film Festival, and Katarzyna Miechowicz’s animated Crumbs of Life by will visit the Black Movie Geneva Independent Film Festival in Switzerland.
One of the most important European documentary film festivals is set to begin in the second half of January. The program of this year’s FIPA DOC includes three Polish productions. Balcony Concert by Krzysztof and Diana Kadłubowski and The Balcony Movie by Paweł Łoziński were invited to competitions, while Emilia Śniegoska’s 19:91 will be shown in a special section for children and adolescents. Łoziński’s film will also be screened at the Trieste Film Festival in Italy.
As many as three Polish documentaries were invited to the competition section of the Budapest International Documentary Film Festival. The Butterfly’s Dream by Jarosław Szmidt, No Hero At All by Michał Kawecki and Judges Under Pressure by Kacper Lisowski will have a chance to win awards.
The Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival starts at the end of the month. The premiere Airborne by Andrzej Jobczyk and Julia Siuda’s Fury from KFF Sales&Promotion catalogue have been invited into the program.
