During this year’s, 26th edition of the festival, five Polish film were accepted to the programme. Apart from above mentioned “Sing me to sleep” also “The Whisper” by Leszek Korusiewicz made its way straight to the competition. Another three short films – “Talk to him” by Agata Prętka, “Underlife” by Jarosław Konopka and “Glasgow” by Piotr Subbotko were screened in the accompanying sections.
„Sing me to sleep” made at Polish National Film School in Łódź proved unbeatable in two competitive categories receiving the award for the best medium length film and the laurel presented by Youth Jury honoring the best short film.
Magnus Arnesen’s film is an adaptation of the story written by well-known Norwegian writer Frode Grytten, which main character is fortyish postman called Robert. One day the man decides to quit his job in order to take care of his mother who is suffering from cancer. Before her death she would like to see her son as a self-dependent man with a woman willing to take her place. As not to let his mother down Robert will have to find the young woman who will agree to pretend being his partner. In the moment of final confrontation each of them will have to follow their new roles.
This year’s edition of Brest Short Film Festival took place between 8th and 13th November. Apart from abundant screening programme, there was a film market that also took place during the event. This year videotheque selection presented the best among 1500 films submitted to the selection. Lots of importance was also given to three programmes addressed to the young audience. Brest’s non-competitive screenings were also significant events of the festival’s schedule and programmes such as Brest Off, animation panorama or European shorts’ selection were not to be missed.
