For over 20 years now Camerimage has been showing the best world films representing the outstanding level of cinematography. The films are shown and evaluated by international jury in as many as nine competition sections while the greatest names of cinematography visit Bydgoszcz during the festival. Camerimage is a festival, which also short and documentary film makers cannot miss.
The first Saturday winner was Magnus Borge – the graduate of Polish National Film School in Łódź was presented the Bronze Tadpole in recognition of the cinematography for the short film "Without snow" by Magnus von Horn. Von Horn’s graduation film is already well known abroad. In Poland it was awarded three times – at the Krakow Film Festival (Silver Hobby-Horse), Warsaw "Łodzią po Wiśle" (1st award), and at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia ( Lucjan Bokiniec Award for the Best Film of the Young Cinema Competition).
The additional Polish Film Institute and Mastershot award, 30 000 zloty, went to Bartosz Bieniek – the cinmeatographer of the etude "All Souls’ Day" by Aleksandra Terpińska. The producer of the victorious film is the Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and Television Department of University of Silesia. The main protagonist of the etude by Terpińska, eighteen-year-old Lena, decides to solve a certain mystery from the past on her birthday.
In the short documentary competition, the special mention went to Jacek Bławut and Paweł Chorzępa for the cinematography for "Loneliness of Sound". The film is devoted to Polish composer Tomasz Sikorski and describes the unique talent of the artist, but also shows the loneliness and alienation, which he had to face. The film by Bławut was awarded two times so far. It is worth remembering that in May the film had its première at Krakow Film Festival while Bławut was presented the Silver Hobby-Horse there. The documentary was produced by Jacek Bławut in co-production with Film Studio "Rabarbar."
This year in the short and documentary sections at Camerimage, eight Polish documentary films and three student shorts were shown. Another five documentaries could be watched in the non-competing sections.
