ANIMATED FILM FESTIVALS IN DECEMBER

There is only one month left in this year. In December, Polish animated films will be present, among others, at the festivals held in Brazil, Iran and Slovenia.

The festival that opens our December list is the Brazilian festival Mumia. The festival, which takes place in two cities: Belo Horizonte and Nova Lima, lasts until December 18. A record-breaking number of twelve Polish films qualified for the international competition at the festival. The films, which will compete for the awards in Brazil, include, among others, "To Thy Heart" by Ewa Borysewicz, "Ziegenort" by Tomasz Popakul and "Hippos" by Piotr Dumała.

The film qualified for this year's edition of LIAF, that is, London International Animation Festival, is "under_construction" by Marcin Wojciechowski. The film by Wojciechowski is the only Polish film which represented Poland in the competition at the British festival.

Another festival, at which a large number of Polish films was presented, was the Slovenian Animateka. The festival's Grand Prix went to Wojciech Sobczyk for his film "Summer 2014", and as many as seven Polish films were included in the competition, among others, "Kinki" by Izumi Yoshida, "Journey" by Michał Wójcicki and "Fences" by Natalia Krawczuk. In the non-competing sections of the festival, there were shown, among others, "Signum" by Witold Giersz, "Creatures" by Tessa Moult-Milewska and "Home" by Agnieszka Borowa. The 12th edition of the Animateka Festival was held from 7 to 13 December in Ljubljana.

The film by Wojciech Sobczyk, which won the Grand Prix of the Slovenian festival Animateka in December, was also shown in the competition at the Bulgarian festival In the Palace. This year's edition took place from December 8 to 13.

This year's edition of the Colombian festival Bogoshorts will be held in a similar period of time.  In the competition, the puppet animation by Bartosz Kędzierski, "Woolen Cogwheels", will compete for the festival laurels. Since its première in May at Krakow Film Festival, so far the film by Kędzierski has been shown at over 15 festivals around the world.

The festival month ends with the participation of the film "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec in the Iranian festival Cinema Verite, which lasts until December 19 in Tehran. The film by Podolec is one of the most popular student animations of the year, which, apart from animated film festivals, is often invited also to documentary film festivals.
