The documentary „Our curse” directed by Tomasz Śliwiński and produced by Warsaw Film School has once more been successful at international film festival. The film was awarded with the Best International Short Documentary prize at Bogoshorts festival in Colobia, thet ended on 9 December. The jury decided to award two documentaries with the main prize of the International Short Documentary Competition. Apart from “Our curse”, also “White Earth” by Christian J. Jensen was awarded. All the festival winners received the statuettes od Saint Lucia – patron saint of filmmakers, sightless and dreamers.
In his film, Tomasz Śliwiński documents first few months of his family life after his son is born. The boy suffers from a very rare and incurable disease of their newborn child – the Ondine’s Curse (also known as CCHS, congenital central hypoventilation syndrome). People affected with this disease stop breathing during sleep and require lifetime mechanical ventilation on a ventilator. At the beginning, the child is still in hospital, but soon he comes home, with all his medical equipment. The film shows the process of taming the fear by the parents and gradually adopting to the new situation.
