GLASGOW tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy, Damian. Brought up by his single mother, he believes that his father is a famous footballer who plays for Glasgow’s Celtic Football Club. During the summer holidays, he works with Mieciu, a retired builder, redecorating flats. A friendship grows between them. Damian plans to use his earnings to go to Scotland. However, then events take a turn which faces him with a dramatic choice…
The cast includes Zygmunt Malanowicz, Rafał Garnecki and Sandra Korzeniak.
The Special Prize at the Cottbus is not the film’s first award. It has already taken the Golden Apricot at Armenia’s Yerevan International Film Festival and the award for the Best Debut at the Message to Man International Film Festival in St. Petersburg.
The film was produced under the auspices of the 30 Minutes programme, designed for young filmmakers as a joint initiative of the Munk Studio, the Wajda Studio, Poland’s national television service, TVP S.A. and the Polish Film Institute.
Apart from "Glasgow" there were two other films screened in the short film competition: "Heroic Parrot with the Dog" by Marcin Sławek, "Twist and Blood" by Kuba Czekaj and "Charcoal Burners" by Piotr Złotorowicz.
It is also worth to mention that in the full length competition Polish feature “My name is Ki” by Leszek Dawid scored two prizes – for the best actress (Roma Gąsiorowska) and FIPRESCI prize while the the award for the Best Youth Film went to “Suicide room” by Jan Komasa. Full length documentary – "Crulic – the path to beyond" by Anca Damian, made in Polish-Romanian coproduction received the Special Mention and the prize of the Ecumenical Jury.
