POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILMS AT DOCSMX

The films represented by us, "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" by Michał Bielawski and "Newborn" by Lidia Duda, are invited to this year's edition of the festival DocsMX.

The festival DocsMX is one of the most important documentary film festivals in Central America. The first editions of the event functioned as the DocsDF – Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de la Ciudad de México, however, after ten editions the organisers decided that it was time for changes. For years, the festival has been enjoying considerable popularity, attracting a growing audience.

This year, the organisers invited to the programme only 77 films from 29 countries, included in 11 sections. In this prestigious group, there are as many as two Polish films: “The Wind. A Documentary Thriller”  by Michał Bielawski and “Newborn” by Lidia Duda. The first one has a chance to win in the “Human Latitudes” section, and the second one, in the “Portraits” section.

The film by Bielawski is an extraordinary documentary film, the protagonist of which is the halny wind – one of the most unpredictable forces in the Polish mountains. It appears cyclically every spring and autumn. You can never know if and when it would turn into a destructive windstorm. The halny wind affects particularly the inhabitants of Zakopane and its surrounding area, changing the picturesque mountain trails into the space of uncontrollable nature.

In turn, the documentary film “Newborn” tells the story about the struggle against one’s own life and the difficult skill of learning a new one. This is a film about a loser who decided to become a winner. A film about the strength of human character. A film about love that can transform one’s life. For him, she ran away from home. For her, he cut himself off from his traumatic past. They have been inseparable for 11 years. Their son is born. The World Champion, who deadlifts 420 kg, takes his firstborn into his arms. Less than four kilograms of “new life”.

This year’s edition of the festival is held from the 10th to the 19th of June.
