POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILMS AT IDFA

Eight Polish documentary films qualified for the participation in this year's edition of the IDFA festival! Six films will compete for the awards in the competition sections, and two will be shown in the noncompetive sections.

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam IDFA is the largest and one of the most important documentary film festivals in the world. Every year, it attracts almost 300 000 viewers, is visited by over three thousand people from the most important organisations in the documentary film industry, and the films shown at IDFA are often festival favourites later on. This year, IDFA is held from November 15-26, and it is the 30th edition of the festival.

"Over the limit" by Marta Prus is invited to the Feature-Length Documentary Film Competition. The screening at IDFA will simultaneously be the film's world première. The documentary film "The Ugliest Car" by Grzegorz Szczepaniak, which will compete for the award in the Mid-Length Documentary Film Competition there and "Zhalanash – Empty Shore" by Marcin Sauter, which will be screened in Competition for Short Documentary, can boast an international première in Amsterdam. The world première of both films was held at the 57th Krakow Film Festival.

The selection panel qualified two Polish films to the Best Student Documentary Film Competition:"Call Me Tony" by Klaudiusz Chrostowski and "The Celebration" by Alexandra Wesolowski. "Volte" by Monika Kotecka and Karolina Poryzała will be screened in the Competition for Kids&Docs. 

In the section Bests of Fests, showing films which were successful at film festivals last year, the documentary film "The Prince and the Dybbuk" by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski will participate. It won the award during the Venice International Film Festival. In the music documentary film programme, there is the film by  by Maciej Bochniak, "Ethiopiques – Revolt of the Soul".

The festival is accompanied by film market Docs for Sale, existing since 1996, which is annually visited by approximately 250 representatives of documentary film industry. Just like every year, in the market video collection, there are many Polish documentary films.
