“SILENT TREES” WITH EAGLES NOMINATION

The nominations for the Polish Film Awards have just been unveiled. Competing for the title of Best Polish Documentary are: Silent Trees by Agnieszka Zwiefka, Forest by Lidia Duda, When Harmattan Blows by Edyta Wróblewska, Wanda Rutkiewicz. The Last Expedition by Eliza Kubarska, and 8th Day of Khamsin by Zvika Gregory Portnoy.

The Polish Film Academy Awards, known as the Eagles, are the annual accolades presented by the Polish Film Academy and have been organised by the Independent Film Foundation for the Polish Film Academy since 1999. The Eagles were originated by Dariusz Jabłoński, a distinguished film director and producer who currently serves as the President of the Polish Film Academy.

Following the tragic death of her mother at the Poland-Belarus border, 16-year-old Kurdish girl Runa has to quickly grow up and take care of her four younger brothers and her depressed, helpless father. During their stay in a refugee camp, the family grapples with trauma, an uncertain future, and the threat of deportation. Runa escapes from daily problems into her sketchbook, which she fills with increasingly disturbing drawings. Agnieszka Zwiefka’s nominated Silent Trees is partially animated coming-of-age story is set against the backdrop of the global refugee crisis.

The prestigious ceremony will take place on 10 March at the Iluzjon Cinema in Warsaw.
