The FICTS FEST Milano festival is a part of international federation of sport festivals FICTS accredited by the olympic committee (IOC). FICTS unites 108 countries where olympic values are publicised via film and television. It is worth mentioning that Palenta could take part in the Italian festival because he won the Best Short Film award at sport film festival in Barcelona last April. This year’s jury of Milan festival has given awards in ten competition categories, as well as special awards. “Freestyle life” by Palenta has been awarded a Special Mention in the “Sport and the community – sporting values” category.
It is the sixteenth festival and third award for the latest documentary by Adam Palenta. The film has already been shown at the festivals in Portugal, Canada, Mexico, France and many others. The film was made within the frames of “First Documentary” programme, and it was produced by Studio Munk, which works within the frames of Polish Filmmakers Association.
Seemlingly, sport competition just like any other – the eye of the camera observes the sportspeople participating in the Swimming World Championship for the Disabled. However, there is something which distinguishes this event from others – it is the notion of “rivalry.” The participants do not compete against each other, but try to overcome their own limitations and weaknesses. The athletes support one another, proving that sport does not only aim to achieve victory over one’s rivals, but – what is the most important thing – over one’s own weaknesses.
