ANIM: “HEADPRICKLES” WINS AWARD AT AMERICAN FESTIVAL

Katarzyna Miechowicz's production received the award for best animated film at the DTLA Film Festival in the US.

DTLA Film Festival, held since 2008, is an event that showcases productions from groups traditionally underrepresented by Hollywood, including women, people of colour, the LGBTQI+ community, people with disabilities, and the economically disenfranchised. To date, the Los Angeles-based festival has presented over 1200 films from around the world.

This year, the festival’s award for best animated film went to the Polish production by Katarzyna Miechowicz.

If you are plagued by intrusive thoughts such as: What guarantees victory in a skeleton competition? What is the optimal number of plastic bags to pack one banana? Or, where did we come from? Who are we? Where are we going? – that’s great! Headprickles is going to answer at least one of these questions. The film consists of a collection of several animated poems connected by a motif of looping in absurdity. In a colourful labyrinth of observations, the characters try to give meaning to the meaningless – or mindlessly linger it. Headprickles probably won’t change the world, cause shock or make a revolution, but perhaps they will prickle your head during the screening?
