„NORMAL PEOPLE” AND „PAPARAZZI” AWARDED AT CAMERIMAGE

The 19th edition of International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography PLUS Camerimage, that for the second time was held in Bydgoszcz, came to an end on 3rd December. Apart from awards that went to Polish films in the full length category also short films were distinguished.

During the Saturday’s award ceremony the Silver Tadpole in the Student Etudes Competition was presented to Nicolas Villegas Hernandez in recognition of his work for “Normal People” by Piotr Złotorowicz produced at Polish National Film School in Łódź. The film’s main protagonist Daniel has just been released from prison and is trying now to start a new life. Reality is not easy though – he must take care of his alcoholic mother and find a job. He might though find some happiness in a new relationship with a medical rescuer he has just met. Normal People are people with their secrets and weaknesses but also with dreams about a better ‘normality.’

Another Polish success at the festival was brought by „Paparazzi” by Piotr Bernaś that won the Short Documentary Film Competition. Piotr Bernaś and Łukasz Żal – the cinematography authors that contributed to the overall success of the film produced by Wajda Studio, received the Golden Frog on Saturday’s closing gala. “Paparazzi” documents the life of a Polish paparazzo who, just like his Western colleagues, follows the rich and the famous, hunting for sensation. Unfortunately unlike those in Los Angeles, Polish celebrities lead quite boring lives.
