On 25 April Hot Docs International Documentary film Festival will begin in Canada. Five Polish documentaries were included in this year's programme.
It is yet another award this month for Marta Pajek's animation. At the Austrian festival "III" was chosen the best animation and the Polish director received a special Voucher for the postproduction of her next film.
Marta Pajek's animation received the press award for best short film at ANIMA - the Brussels Animation Film Festival.
Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Festival begins exactly in one week. Eight films from Polish female directors were included in the programme, while one of the directors even made a trailer promoting this year's edition of the festival.
After the long winter sleep, the festivals come back to life. In March there are, among others, the Belgian ANIMA, the Tehran International Animation Festival, the Tricky Women and the Mecal Pro in Barcelona. In March, the spring festival season starts for good. This month, Polish documentary films will be shown, among others, in Prague, Vilnius and Kiev.
In the first week of March starts the 11th edition of the Tehran International Animation Festival. As many as four Polish short animated films are invited to the competition.
At the beginning of March the 38th edition of ANIMA Festival starts in Belgium. Six Polish animations were invited to the programme.
Tomasz Popakul animation was chosen by Vimeo as the best animation at this year Sundance Film Festival.
2018 can be considered a really successful year. Polish animated films travelled around the world, starting with Berlin, Cannes, Leipzig, through Ottawa, Sydney, Auckland, to Hiroshima, Seoul and Bogota. In addition to film screenings, there were also industry meetings, film markets and reviews. Almost at every important film event dedicated to animation, you could find some Polish productions included in the programme. In 2018, Polish documentary films were shown at international film festivals over 550 times, winning a total of 74 awards. Polish documentary film was the special guest, among others, at the festivals MakeDox in Macedonia and the Escales Documentaries in France. Nominations for the Eagles - Polish Film Academy Awards, a.k.a. "Polish Oscars", were announced on February 6th. Three films will compete for the best documentary award: "Opera about Poland" by Piotr Stasik, "Over the Limit" by Marta Prus and "The Prince and the Dybbuk" by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski.
