April 14 in Chicago the 47th Hugo TV Awards were announced. “Declaration of immortality” by Marcin Koszałka was listed among the winners.
During the ending ceremony of the 17th edition of Visions du Réel in Nyon, Switzerland, 16 prizes were given in the festival’s international competition. One of them went to Polish documentary filmmaker, Michał Marczak, director of “At the Edge of Russia”.
The principal event dedicated to the culture of documentary in Latin America, It’s All True 2011 – International Documentary Film Festival, came to an end. Once again this year Jakub Stożek and his short film “Out of Reach” appeared among the winners.
Beyond the borders of Poland writing about Polish films, especially about documentaries, is not a common practice. Therefore, what a great honour is the publication of two Polish documentary films reviews in one of the most popular magazine in the USA, ‘Variety’.

The big news is that there are Polish documentaries in the varied programme of films produced in all corners of the globe!
The 17th edition of the festival that that is one of the leading European documen¬tary film events film events—Visions du Réel in Nyon, Switzerland–will be held in the first part of April. There will be three Polish titles screened in the competition. One of them will celebrate its world premiere, the other one–international premiere.
Last Saturday in Oulu, Finland the 4th edition of MusiXine International Music Film Festival came to an end. Among nine music documentaries taking part in the competition Polish “Beats of Freedom” - a story about Polish rock music–was announced the best one!
Last weekend was marked by Polish documentary’s successes abroad. On Sunday Marcin Koszałka was awarded in Tampere, Finland, and what is more, Piotr Złotorowicz collected awards once again – this time at two overseas festivals.
Seven Polish animation films have been selected along with 200 other titles that will form the programme of the most prestigious festival dedicated to animation production in Europe. 35th edition of International Animation Film Festival will be held in french Annecy between 6th and 11th June.
The last weekend occured to be amazingly successful for Piotr Złotorowicz and his documentary etude “Charcoal Burners” – the film was awarded at two festivals: in Zagreb as well as in New Mexico!
Last year’s success of Wojciech Kasperski and his “Chasm” at the festival in Zagreb has been repeated this year. The “Little Stamp” award went to Piotr Złotorowicz for his film “Charcoal Burners”.
