October is the peak of the film festival season. This month, Polish documentary films will be screened in over 40 screenings at 20 film festivals around the world.
This year, the programmers of DOK. Leipzig invited nine Polish documentary films and six animations to participate in the festival. Additional ten films will participate in DOK. Market, within the frames of the Polish Docs programme, and another six - in the DOK. Incubator, DOK. Leipzig Net Lab and DOK. Leipzig Co-Production Meeting workshops.
The films “Echoes Course” by Maja Wolińska and Joan Leandre and "When I am a Bird" by Monika Pawluczuk are the winners of the Polish Competition at Szczecin European Film Festival. The festival ended on 6 October.
Next week in Berlin, the festival Prix Europa starts, where the awards for the best European radio, television and internet productions are given. In the television documentary category, two Polish films are nominated: “Together” by Maciej Adamek and “The Promise of a Happy Childhood” by Piotr Morawski and Ryszard Kaczyński.
The winning streak of the film “Our Curse” continues. This documentary, directed by Tomasz Śliwiński, won the Best Documentary Short award at the Raindance festival in London, which ended last Sunday, 5 October.
Last weekend, another award went to Tomek Ducki. This time, the film was awarded by the jury of the Brazilian Animage festival, held from 16 to 28 September in Pernambuco.
The jury of the Signes de Nuit festival, held in Paris, gave the Signs Award for Documentary to “When I am a Bird” by Monika Pawluczuk. It is the first international award for this film.
The documentary “Abu Haraz,” directed and produced by Maciej J. Drygas, won two main awards at Flahertiana Film Festival: Grand Prix - the Big Golden Nanook award and the Silver Nanook award, granted by FIPRESCI. The festival was held in the Russian city of Perm from 21 to 28 September.
Last weekend was particularly successful for Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski. Their documentary film "Domino Effect” won in the Let Me Follow the Call section at the first edition of the Budapest International Documentary Festival.
On 27 September, the festival Look&Roll ended in Olten, Switzerland. Among the festival winners, there is the documentary by Tomasz Śliwiński, "Our Curse," which won the Foundation Denk an mich award.
This year, forty films produced or co-produced in Poland will participate in the East Silver Market. Seven of them were nominated for Silver Eye awards for the best creative documentaries of the market.
On 25 September, the list of ten finalists of the Cinema Eye Honors awards in the Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Short Filmmaking category was announced. On the list, there is the award-winning documentary "Joanna" by Aneta Kopacz and the film "Vegas" by Łukasz Konopa, produced in Great Britain.
