25th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival "Message to Man" turned out to be very lucky for Polish documentary films. Four Polish productions were awarded.
The latest films by Tomek Ducki ("Baths") and Piotr Dumała ("Hippos") are among the most popular festival films of the past year. Late September both films scored awards at festivals KROK and 2Annas.
The documentary film by Michał Szcześniak was appreciated once more. This time, it was given a special mention at the film festival in Budapest.
The film by Aleksandra Maciuszek won two awards at the recently finished Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, including the Best Feature-Length Documentary Film award.
This year, forty seven films produced or co-produced in Poland will participate in the East Silver Market. Eight of them were nominated for the Silver Eye awards for the best documentary films of the market.
"Jurek" by Paweł Wysoczański achieved new successes. The film won the main award at the Mountaineering Film Festival in Teplice, the Czech Republic, and two awards at Mountain Film Festival in Lądek Zdrój.
The programme of Icelandic RIFF – Reykjavik International Film Festival – features a special event devoted to Polish animated film. The meeting "Polish Animation Now" was organized by the joint efforts of RIFF organizers and Culture.pl.
"Call Me Marianna" by Karolina Bielawska was chosen the Best Documentary Film at the International Film Festival Queer Lisboa.
On September 20 ended the Camden International Film Festival. "Object" by Paulina Skibińska won an award in the USA.
On September 20 ended the 21st edition of Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival. "Starting Point" by Michał Szcześniak was awarded with the Honourable Mention.
The beginning of Autumn marks a busy period for Polish animated filmmakers. This month there are 25 screenings planned at festivals spread all over the globe.
On 17 September, the list of ten films competing for the Cinema Eye Honors awards in the Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Short Filmmaking category was announced. Among the shortlisted films, there is also the award-winning documentary film by Teresa Czepiec, "Super Unit".
On September 18 begins the 15th edition of the Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival in Perm. During this edition, in the Special Programme prepared in co-operation with Krakow Film Foundation, 20 Polish documentary films will be shown, and "The Queen of Silence" and "Werka" will compete in the international competition.
