“CLOSE TIES” AWARDED IN EGYPT

At the recently finished American festival GLAS Animation, the main award went to Marta Pajek for her film "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II."
On March 4, the award ceremony at the Croatian festival ZagrebDox was held. On that day, as many as three Polish documentary films were awarded: "21 x New York" by Piotr Stasik, "Communion" by Anna Zamecka and "Close Ties" by Zofia Kowalewska.
March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. The festival month mirrors the weather: European festivals alternate with these in the United States, and in addition to documentary film festivals, there are festivals dedicated to animated and short films.
2016 was a very successful year for Polish shorts. More than 260 titles were shown at more than 1,100 festival screenings all around the world, winning nearly 130 awards. Polish shorts were also special guests at festivals such as Curtas Vila do Conde in Portugal, Regensburg International Short Film Week in Germany and Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival SICAF in Korea.
Krakow Film Foundation Programme Council decided to celebrate this year’s 70th anniversary of Polish animation by unprecedented tribute to two outstanding veterans of this genre: Witold Giersz and Daniel Szczechura. It is 20th edition of Dragon of Dragons award which is granted for significant influence on the development of the world cinema.
“First Pole on Mars” by Agnieszka Elbanowska won an award for The Best Short Documentary Film on Dutch festival DOCfeed which ended on February 19th.

In 2016, Polish documentary films were shown at international film festivals almost 430times, winning a total of over 80 awards. Polish documentary film was also the special guest at, among others, DOK Leipzig Film Festival, Trieste Film Festival and GZ DOC in China. We were also present on the short list for the Academy Awards and among the nominees for the European Film Award. We would like to invite you to read the summary of the previous year.
This year's edition of the festival in Clermont-Ferrand, the largest European short film festival, begins on February 3. This year, two Polish films are included in the international competition. The latest Polish short films will be also shown at the accompanying film market, where the stall of POLISH DOCS will be established for the eleventh time.
