Though two short films are in the centre of this year's interest in the Cannes festival, namely, the animated film "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński (Semaine de la Critique section) and a fiction film "Fragments" by Aga Woszczyńska (Directors’ Fortnight), it is worth remembering about other films that will be watched by film professionals visiting the Short Film Corner. As many as 35 films await people interested in Polish cinema.
On Sunday evening ended the fifth edition of animated film festival Chilemnos. The diploma film by Paweł Prewencki "What happens when children don't eat soup" was among over thirteen awarded animated films.
Last Sunday, on 11 May, the documentary film festival DOXA ended in Vancouver. The film by Adela Kaczmarek was awarded an honourable mention at the festival.
The festival Sheffield Doc/Fest takes place from 7 to 12 June. In the competitive sections of this event, the films "Joanna" by Aneta Kopacz and "Our Curse" by Tomasz Śliwiński will be shown. Furthermore, a delegation of Polish producers invited to the festival will present their new projetcs.
May at the festivals bids fair. In this month, there is as many as 31 festival screenings at fifteen film festivals. Polish films will be present in the programmes of festivals held, among others, in the USA, Italy, Turkey or the Czech Republic.
On Sunday evening, the 43rd edition of the Sehsüchte Student Film Festival, which lasted from 30 April in Potsdam, Germany, ended. Among the award-winners, there is Łukasz Simlat - the main actor in the diploma film by Paweł Maślona "Magma."
On 8 May, the International Documentary Film Festival Doc Aviv starts in Tel Aviv. This year, Poland is the festival's special guest. On this occasion, six Polish documentary films will be shown in Tel Aviv.
Yesterday evening, at a festive closing ceremony of the 11th edition of the Portuguese festival indielisboa, Tomasz Śliwiński was given the Audience Award for his student film, "Our Curse." The film was the only Polish short documentary in the competition of the festival.
In May, the widest review of Polish documentary films will take place in Poland - 21 films will be presented in the competitive sections of the 54th Krakow Film Festival, 7 films - in the competitive sections of Planete + Doc. Abroad, Polish documentary films will be shown at six festivals.
The film "Sati," directed by Bartek Świderski, was awarded at the Trento Film Festival. The documentary won the Golden Gentian of the Italian Alpine Club for the best film on mountaneering.
The premiere screening of the film by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski "Domino Effect" turned out to be lucky. At the Swiss festival Visions du Reel, the film won the Prize of the Interreligious Jury.
Last weekend belonged to Tomek Ducki and his latest animated film "Baths." The film won two awards - at the Animatricks festival in Helsinki and at BE FILM Underground Film Festival in New York.
