Last weekend was lucky for Polish film school students, who won three awards at the festivals in North America. Polish films were awarded at the Lonestar Film Festival and Berkeley Video Film Fest in US as well as at Canadian Hamilton Film Festival.
In autumn, as usual, we observe the increase in festival activities. This month, Polish short films - documentary, fiction and animation - will be shown 135 times at 50 festivals abroad.
November is the peak of the autumn festival season. This month, over 40 Polish documentary films will be shown in over 70 screenings at nearly 30 film festivals around the world.
Last weekend brought yet another award for the film “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul. The film won the Grand Prix at the Japanese festival New Chitose Airport IAFF.
On Saturday, this year’s edition of the Hungarian animated film festival Primanima, dedicated exclusively to animated film debuts, ended. Among the award-winners, there are two Polish films - “Baths” by Tomek Ducki and “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul.
The film "Domino Effect" directed by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski was awarded at the DOK.Leipzig Festival, which ended last weekend. The film won the Golden Dove award for the best documentary film in the Doc German Competition.
On Tuesday ended the 7th edition of the International Animated Film Festival BANJALUKA. Among the award-winning films, there are as many as three Polish animations.
The student documentary by Tomasz Śliwiński, “Our Curse,” was appreciated by the members of the International Documentary Association. The film was nominated for IDA Awards in the short film category.
The film by Matej Bobrik, “A Visit,” won the Silver Eye Award in the short film category at the East Silver Market, which ended yesterday. In the feature-length category, the Polish-Czech-Slovakian film “Gottland” received a Special Mention.
The documentary by Maciej Drygas, “Abu Haraz” won the Grand Prix award at the Ânûû-Rû Âboro festival in New Caledonia. The eighth edition of the festival was held from 17 to 25 October.
Last Sunday, on 26 October, the International Documentary Film Festival Aljazeera ended in Qatar. "Sati" by Bartłomiej Świderski has been awarded in Qatar for the best direction and "Left side of the face" - for the best cinematography.
Another weekend is gone. In the last days, two awards went to the Polish animated filmmakers, well-known to the foreign festival audience - Tomek Ducki (“Baths”) and Karolina Specht (“An Incredibly Elastic Man”).
