For “Starting Point” by Michał Szcześniak, “Super Unit” by Teresa Czepiec and “One Man Show" by Jakub Piatek, the screening in Leipzig will be international premiere. On this occasion Polish Docs presents the reviews of first two films and interview with Jakub Piątek.
This evening, the 7th Annual Imagine Science Film Festival comes to an end. We already know its winners. One of them is “Our Curse” by Tomasz Śliwiński, honoured by the jury with the Nature Scientific Merit Award.
Two of eight films, which are included on the shortlist for the Academy Awards in the Documentary Short Subject category, are Polish productions! “Joanna” by Aneta Kopacz and “Our Curse” by Tomasz Śliwiński are a step closer on the road to the Academy Awards.
Last weekend brought Tomasz Śliwiński two awards and a special mention. His student documentary “Our Curse” was chosen the best short documentary at Woodstock Film Festival, won the Jimmy Steward Memorial Crystal Heart Award at Heartland Film Festival and Special Mention at Indie Cork festival in Ireland.
The anniversary 30th edition of Warsaw Film Festival ended last Sunday, 19 October. The festival audience appreciated the documentary by Aneta Kopacz, “Joanna,” which won the Audience Award in the short film category.
Last weekend, the number of awards won by Polish animated films increased by two. Polish animated films were awarded by two juries - the jury of the Short Film Festival in Brno, and Be There! Animated Film Festival, held on the Greek island of Corfu.
Among the winners of the 9th edition of the Romanian Animation Film Festival Anim’est there is Polish animated film etude, "An Incredibly Elastic Man" by Karolina Specht. The film was given the Special Mention in the student film category.
On Saturday, 11 October, the 11th edition of the Serbian Animated Film Festival Balkanima came to an end. The jury awarded Polish films three times.
Last weekend, in Slovakian Poprad, the 12th edition of the International Mountain Film Festival. Among the award-winners, there is a Polish documentary film - “Sati” by Bartek Świderski.
Last weekend was very successful for Tomasz Śliwiński. His film “Our Curse” was given two awards - the Best Documentary award at Sapporo International Short Film Festival and the Best Student Film award at Chagrin Documentary Film Festival in Chagrin Falls, USA.
Eleven Polish documentaries qualified for this year’s edition of the IDFA festival. Four of them will compete for awards in the competition sections, whereas the remaining seven films will be shown in the non-competitive thematic programmes.
In the last weekend of September, the latest film by Martin Rath, “Arena,” was given yet another award. This time, the student etude was awarded by the jury of the American festival Crested Butte.
Every year, Autumn is the peak of the festival season. This month, Polish short films will participate in the programmes of 49 foreign film festivals. There will be a record-breaking number of 157 festival screenings in October.
