Although the 12th edition of the International Festival of Debut and Student Films BEGINNING officially ended five days ago, it is only today that we learn about the awards it brought to Polish directors. Two films made their way into the winning group – “The Railway Watchman” by Piotr Szczepanowicz and “To War We Go!” by Krzysztof Kasior.
This Wednesday in London the 21st edition of RAINDANCE International Film Festival is starting. The programme includes a big strand dedicated to the newest Polish cinema, presenting not only feature films and documentaries, but also short films.
We got to know the winners of Georgia's Batumi International Art-House Festival, seeing its eighth edition this year. Among the films awarded is "Miruna", a student fiction film directed by Piotr Sułkowski.
'We Will Be Happy One Day', a film by Paweł Wysoczański, won the award for Best Documentary at the Jameson CineFest International Film Festival which ended on Saturday in Miskolc, Hungary.
Aleksandra Terpińska, the author of a popular etude “All Souls’ Day”, won another award last weekend. This time, it came from the jury of the 19th edition of the international Short Film Festival in the Greek city of Drama, which ended on Saturday evening.
Since the last weekend, when Poles received awards of the Swiss animation film festival Fantoche our animators have a run of luck. In the last week “Ziegenort” by Tomek Popakul and “Katachi” by Kijek/Adamski scored the awards of another two festival.
As summer is coming to an end, the number of short films invited to festivals has been growing steadily. Polish films are scheduled to be shown over 70 times at nearly thirty international festivals this month.
The 11th edition of Fantoche animation festival was brought to an end yesterday evening in the Swiss city of Baden. Two Polish titles have appeared among the awarded films – the multiple award winner “Ziegenort” by Tomek Popakul and the film “Baths” by Tomek Ducki, making its’ debut at the international arena.
With almost a month of delay the news has reached us about an award for Tomek Popakul – the author of an animated film „Ziegenort”, which for the last few months has been visiting many international film festivals. On August 13th the film has been awarded at the Italian Lucania Festival.
Last weekend brought another award for Łukasz Ostalski for his feature film “The Mother”. Yesterday evening the film made its way onto the winners list at the 38th Odense IFF.
Programmers for Mexico's DocsDF festival have resolved to invite as many as five Polish documentaries to compete in this year's edition of the event. Participating in different sections, the following films will be brought to the audience: Lidia Duda's 'Entangled', Wojciech Królikowski's 'In the Eye of God', Diana Aszyk's 'God's Lake', Grzegorz Zariczny's 'The Whistle' and 'Mundial. The Highest Stakes' by Michał Bielawski.
18-minutes long fiction by Eliza Subotowicz has been travelling through the festivals for one year and a half now. It took it a while though to score its first award. At the end of July “Mercy” received an award the African Durban Film Festival.
This month Polish short films will be screened at 17 foreign film festivals. Two most celebrated titles of August are – animated “Ziegenort” by Tomek Popakul and a documentary “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski.
