Over the past years, Wojciech Staroń became the Polish documentary film-maker, who consistently makes us aware that the documentary film is art, that ordinary, mundane everyday life may conceal the deepest and the most convincing meanings. His latest film, "Brothers," awarded at the 68th International Film Festival in Locarno, is yet another proof that his creative output constitutes a value which cannot be overestimated.
On 26th October started the 58th edition of the prestigious DOK.Leipzig. One of the Polish representatives at this year's Festival in Leipzig is the latest film by Wojciech Staroń, "Brothers," which will compete for the Golden Dove in the International Competition.
At the recently finished International Mountain Film Festival in Tegernsee, two Polish documentary films were shown: "The Place" by Julia Popławska and "Jurek" by Paweł Wysoczański. Both returned from Germany with awards.
"Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape" by Jerzy Kucia and "It's Quite True" by Joanna Jasińska Koronkiewicz were nominated for the prestigious Asian television Gold Panda awards. The award gala of the 13th edition of the event is held on November 4.
Two Polish films were awarded at this year's edition of the Brno 16 Festival. The film "Light in August" by Matej Bobrik won the Student Jury Award and the Special Mention, and "Larp" by Kordian Kądziela - the Special Mention.
Last weekend, ended the fifth edition of the Greek animated film festival Be there! Two awards went to Jerzy Kucia, who showed his film "Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape" at the festival.
The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival has just ended. Among the award-winning films, there are "End of the World" by Monika Pawluczuk and "Something better to come" by Hanna Polak.
The titles of the films qualified for the NORDIC:DOX competition have been announced. Among 12 competing Nordic films, there is also the Polish-Icelandic production "Grace of God," directed by Kristján Loðmfjörð.
The jury of Serbian Balkanima European Film Festival, that came to an end last weekend chose to award two Polish animated films. "A blue room" by Tomasz Siwiński and "Summer 2014" by Wojciech Sobczyk received Special Mentions.
On October 10, the Award-Ceremony at the 22nd edition of the Astra International Film Festival was held. One of the statuettes went to the short documentary film "Super Unit" by Teresa Czepiec.
Five Polish documentary films qualified for the participation in this year's edition of the IDFA festival! Two films will compete for the awards in the competition sections, and three will be presented in the non-competing thematic sections.

Good news from Armenia. The documentary film by Monika Pawluczuk, "When I am a Bird," was awarded the Grand Prix at the Apricot Tree International Ethno Film Festival.
